How to use this stopwatch
- 1
Press Start. The display counts up from zero.
- 2
Press Lap to mark a split. Each lap shows its own time and the running total; with three or more laps the fastest and slowest are highlighted.
- 3
Pause or reset. Pause keeps the elapsed time so you can resume; Reset clears the time and the laps.
Example
Start the stopwatch and press Lap at 1:05.20 and again at 2:30.00. The laps are 1:05.20 and 1:24.80, with totals of 1:05.20 and 2:30.00.
How it is calculated
The stopwatch stores the moment you pressed Start and works out the elapsed time from the clock on every refresh, rather than counting timer ticks. Browsers slow down timers in background tabs, but because the time is always recalculated from timestamps, the displayed time is still correct when you return.
The display shows hundredths of a second, but real precision depends on your device and browser, so it is suitable for everyday timing rather than competition timing. The measurement uses your system clock; changing the system time while the stopwatch runs will affect it.
